A BIG YEAR FOR BASKETBALL IN THE WHEATBELT
  PARTNERSHIP
Basketball WA announced their partnership with CSBP Fertilisers in May 2023 resulting in the Wheatbelt having their first Regional Development Officer.
The aim of the partnership is to strengthen basketball in the Wheatbelt by providing equipment and resources to local schools, developing coaching and referee programs, and increasing participation in Basketball throughout the Wheatbelt Region.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE CLINIC
Basketball WA – Wheatbelt teamed up with Curtin University and ran a high- performance clinic and a ‘come and try’ session during the school holidays.
More than 80 athletes and ballers across the Wheatbelt developed their skills under the guidance of Coach Ricky Grace and 4 of the Curtin Carnaby Players.
FUEL TO GO AND PLAY SCHOOL SLAM SERIES
The Wheatbelt held its first Fuel To Go and Play School Slam Series in Northam. All the players, teachers and parents had a great time and every school left it all on the court as they battle it out to be the first to put their school on the Northam Slam Series trophy.
COURSES
A variety of courses were conducted in 2023 with Level 0 community courses and Association beginner courses being delivered across the Wheatbelt. Courses where run in Gingin, Dowerin, Mukinbudin and two were held in Northam.
ASSOCIATIONS
With the season well underway associations are busy getting their representative teams ready for Country Champs in early 2024, with 7 associations having at least one team entering the competition.
Narrogin were early getting their representative team selected and as a result were able to enter boys’ and girls’ teams across multiple age groups into the Slammers Southwest Carnival and BWA’s State Champs. Narrogin were the only team in the Wheatbelt to compete in both competitions.
A big congratulations to the U15 Girls who were State Champs Division 5 Champions, also a special thanks to all the Narrogin referees, coaches and committee members that volunteered their free time to make this happen.
FORD AUSSIE HOOPS
Ford Aussie Hoops numbers continue to grow in the Wheatbelt, in 2023 there were 9 Ford Aussie Hoops centres running in Term Four with Yilgarn Basketball Association be the latest to join the Ford Aussie Hoops program. The growth and interest in the program supports the development of local players as well as coaches in the region.
