In the September issue of Newfound Lake Life, an article on Recycling in Bristol appeared, which produced a reader com- ment on the figures used in the ar- ticle. To keep everyone in Bristol informed on this issue, we would like to clarify a few things from the article.
In the article, we stated that “the going rate for cardboard

It is with both sadness and excitement that I announce my resignation with the Town of Plymouth. My last day as the Chief of Police will be September 30, 2021.
After serving this town for over 27 years, my decision to leave this position has been difficult and weighs heavily on my heart. I am humbled and honored this community chose me as their
Chief of Police almost ten years ago. While I am excited about pursuing my new opportunity with the University, I am sad to be leaving both the Town of Plymouth and the Police Department. The relationships I fostered throughout the years will never be forgotten and will always be a part of me.
It has been a great experience protecting and serving everyone
in this town. I thank the entire community for always being supportive of the Police Dept. and me. I have enjoyed my working experience here and am grateful for everyone I’ve been able to help over the years.
The Select Board is considering Alex Hutchins as the next Chief of Police. I cannot think of anyone else more suited or prepared to take my place as
the Chief of Police for the Town of Plymouth. The Select Board held a meeting on September 27, 2021, to solicit comment regarding Alex Hutchins as the next Chief of Police.
As your current Chief of Police, it is with my highest recommendation and without reservation, I recommend the town appoints Alex Hutchins as the next Chief of Police.

varies, but now a bale is going for about $160, which is reve- nue for Bristol.” This is incor- rectly worded, and we apologize. While market pricing changes monthly, the current rate is $160- $180 per ton of baled cardboard, according to a spokesperson for Northeast Resource Recovery As- sociation, NRRA.
We have a horizontal baler that produces bales weighing be- tween 1300 - 1500 pounds.
Vertical balers, which we do not have, produce bales weighing 600-800 pounds.
As an NRRA member, the town of Bristol gets top prices for high-quality material.
Our committee and the select board have worked closely with the transfer station, vendors, re- cycling resources, and other mu- nicipalities to best calculate the cost of recycling and removing trash in general.
What is essential to know is that if all this cardboard went into the general trash - we would be paying additional hauling fees every month plus tipping fees to remove it. The town transfer station superintendent has con- firmed that It costs $70.14 per ton for trash to go to the incinerator. This is money we save by pulling the cardboard out to be recycled. By investing in equipment and buildings to recycle cardboard -
we remove the volume of card- board from our general trash and at the same time earn revenue for the baled cardboard. Of course, this is not pure profit but goes to- ward paying down the investment in recycling which was voted on at our annual meeting.
In the past four weeks of re- cycling cardboard, the town has surpassed our projections of how much cardboard we collect. And that is good for all of us.
