Sometimes it Rains on Your Parade, and Sometimes it Doesn’t

Kevin Chubbuck from Bel- mont sure does have some pas- sions in his life. He is a local artist, producing paintings, wood burnings of nature’s best, and au- tomotive history. But other than impeccable artistry, Chubbuck has a love for vintage cars. He and his 1970 Chevrolet Impala regularly attends cruise Nights and car shows to show off the bright yellow masterpiece while admiring others. He recently found a way to share his passion with his wife, Denise Pope. Kevin contacted Dennis and Lucy Ford, organizers of the Village Pizza Cruise Night, held every Friday night in Bristol, where Kevin is a regular, and hatched the perfect plan to surprise his wife. Denise has always loved Ford Mustangs and wanted one to call her own. Seeing as Kevin’s favorite phrase is “I just like to make people
happy,” he was about to make that happen.
With their upcoming 12th wedding anniversary, Kevin wished to make her dream come true. So he looked around and found a sweet Green and Gold 1968 Mustang for sale in Mas- sachusetts. Kevin purchased the car and had some mechanical issues corrected before picking it up and delivering it to his broth- er-in-laws home, hiding it from his wife, Denise. This whole sneaky process took a whopping two weeks! The plan was all in place to have his brother-in-law drive the car to the Cruise Night at Village Pizza on Friday, July 2nd. He was to park the vehicle among the hundred or so classics that regularly attend. But unfor- tunately for everyone, the rain came in on that Friday morning, and the Cruise Night was can- celed.
Dennis, Lucy, and Kevin
quickly made a plan to resched- ule the Village Pizza Cruise Night for Monday, July 5th. Mes- sages were sent through phone calls and social media, and then before they knew it, they had fif- ty-one other classics arrive under sunny skies, including the beau- tiful green Mustang. At the con- clusion of the night, the last raffle ticket drawn was one Dennis had been holding on to that matched the numbers on Denise’s ticket. She stepped forward, and Dennis handed her the wooden plaque Kevin had made with a running
mustang on it, an envelope with a picture from Kevin and Denise at their wedding, and yes, the keys to a shiny green 1968 Ford Mus- tang. The crowd of probably 100 people erupted with applause, cheers, and congratulations. Denise was absolutely over the moon with her anniversary gift from Kevin.
The classic and antique cars and trucks quickly jumped out and headed north on 3A and headed around Newfound Lake for an Independence Day parade scheduled for the rainy Friday be-
fore. The last two vehicles in the parade were Kevin in the Bright yellow Impala, followed by De- nise, her sister, and her husband in the gorgeous green and gold mustang.
The sunset reflecting on New- found Lake as the parade weaved through the ledges on the west shore was almost as bright as the smile on both Kevin and Denise’s faces.
Dennis and Lucy absolutely loved having a part in this and would like to wish Kevin and De- nise a happy anniversary!
