INTRODUCTION
New Dining Practices
What is in our future? If long term care follows the lead of acute care, it could well be room service. Room service is growing in popularity as an enhancement of resident choice in dining in acute care settings. The statistics are pretty convincing. The National Society for Healthcare Foodservice Management (HFM) shares that nearly 70% of their members either have already implemented room service or plan to do so in the near future. The nearly unanimous factor in their decision to change was patient satisfaction.
As we plan for the future, baby boomers and generations to follow will likely enjoy an environment created by their own choices. Watch for room service in your local hospital. Perhaps, it will be the next generation of change in our dining programs. But forget the futuristic for now and let’s focus all our energy on maximizing choice within our options today.
The quality of our elders’ lives can be greatly enhanced by the choices you introduce into your dining program at any stage of culture change!
