in Organizational Design, continued
Or hold weekly learning circles every other week with residents and staff, and the alternating meeting with staff only.
(See rules on page 28)
Here are some great questions to pose...
...at Staff Circles:
What could we do to help Mr. _ feel at home his first week here? What have we found out about Mrs. ___?
How can we work together better?
Are there ways we could help dietary enjoy the residents more? What communication shortcomings do we have shift to shift? How can we interest the families more in what we do?
What should we expect of each other as team members? What would I like to learn in order to do a better job?
...at Staff and Resident Circles:
Tell us about your best friend when you were growing up.
What do you want in a good friend?
Friends are so important – what could we all do to become better friends? How many houses have you lived in since you were born?
Which house was your favorite house and why?
What could we do to here to make it more of home?
As people begin to talk and share wonderful things happen. Two teenagers working in the dietary department in The Village at Indianola, IA listened seriously as a resident talked about her favorite house. She gave the address in a town about 40 minutes away. She talked about her roses in the front yard and wondered how they were doing. One of the teens borrowed his dad’s car and they drove 40 miles to return to her with a picture of her house and roses. They are now new friends, never to be forgotten.
