The Way to the Heart ... may be through Dining
In a cross facility team, choose the following - Meeting Leader: ____________________ Notetaker: _________________________
Step 1: Read and Understand Instructions
Process Coach: _________________________ Timekeeper: ____________________________
(3 minutes)
Meeting Leader: Have everyone read these instructions. Pleasure in dining can be defined by individual preference. Ask your team members to go off to themselves, and, following the instructions in the Reflections handout, spend 10 minutes reflecting on their most favorite of all dining experiences; it can be plain or fancy, current or past, celebratory or everyday or even in your dreams, but it should be such a pleasant experience that it warms their heart to reflect on it. Using the Journal Your Thoughts on the Way to the Heart. . . through Dining worksheet, they should jot down their thoughts about their favorite dining experience, their workplace dining experience and the goals of culture change.
Step 2: Everyone Goes off By Themselves to Reflect (7 minutes)
Timekeeper: Participate as a member, but watch your time and let everyone know at about nine minutes that they have one minute left, and again notify anyone who has not returned to the table at ten minutes.
Step 3: Everyone Shares (10 minutes)
Meeting Leader: Have everyone share their thoughts around the table. Remind people to share the essential elements of their most favorite dining experience, comparing it to the dining experience in their workplace and the goals of culture change.
Process Coach: Encourage everyone to have a say, gently suggest moving to the next person if someone becomes so engaged that they monopolize the conversation.
Step 4: Plan a Presentation to the Entire GROUP (10 minutes)
Meeting Leader: Once everyone has shared, talk about the common themes or elements that are universal in a dining experience that warms the heart. Be creative - even silly or crazy if you want to - and come up with a way to present three of the common elements to the full group. Be sure you convey the basic concepts of a dining experience that warms the heart. You will have only 2 minutes for your presentation.
Notetaker: Take notes as needed by your team.
Timekeeper: Work hard to help the group complete its project within the 35 minute total preparation time - presentation time is additional.
Step 5: Present your Team’s Way to the Heart through Dining (2 minute per team) Meeting Leader: Your team is expected to make a 2-minute presentation on your topic.
Process Coach: Following the presentation, share your observations of the dynamics that took place during Steps 3 and 4.
Step #6: Where do we Go from Here?
Brainstorm on how to discover the individual dining for each resident in your facility. Work on an Action Plan to address these very important elements of dining that warms the hearts in a culture change facility. Use the Facility Action Plan Worksheet to document your thoughts.
