 Nurses face-to-face workshop in May
16
Fertility Nurses of Australasia (FNA) will present a mid-year workshop at the Citadene on Bourke in Melbourne on Saturday 15 May 2021.
FNA Chair Margie Parry said: “Happily, this will be a face-to- face meeting and we encourage all FNA members to consider attending as we look more positively ahead after the forced restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The meeting is entitled Liquorice All-Sorts Revisited with speakers addressing a wide range of subjects relevant to nurses specialising in assisted reproduction. Early bird registration on or before 31 March will be a heavily discounted $55.00. Standard member registration from 1 April will be $110.00 and $220.00 for a non-member.
Faced with pandemic lockdowns and severe restrictions in 2020, FNA conducted a series of webinars initially with a focus on support for nurses coping with personal and patient anxieties over the impacts of the virus.
Margie said FNA greatly appreciated the support of the FSANZ professional counselling group ANZICA in this activity as nurses were confronted with new and complex pressures.
“Sharing information is an important aspect in helping our patients and each other,” she explained.
During 2020, a further series of webinars were presented with very positive participation. The topics and speakers included:
• anti-mullerian hormone, Dr Rashi Kalra
• factors affecting embryo development, Dr Petra Wale
• DHEA v testosterone, Dr Hossam Elzeiny
• male fertility, Dr Akwasi Amoako
'Sharing information is an important aspect in helping our patients and each other'
• ovarian tissue cryopreservation and grafting, Associate Professor Kate Stern
• underlying mechanisms of oocyte death during cancer treatment, Dr Quynh-Nhu Nguyen
• ethics in IVF, Professor Cameron Stewart
• medical management of obesity, Dr Swee Lin
• LGBTIQ+ fertility: Considerations for affirming care, Amelia Arnold.
“FNA continues to focus on networking and developing the status of nurses working in assisted reproductive technology in Australia and New Zealand,” Margie said.
“Our website is constantly evolving to promote educational events and opportunities for members along with research that supports the art and science of fertility nursing and best practice outcomes for our patients.”
FNA maintains a register of nursing staff for all units in Australia and New Zealand and a nurse representative is elected to the Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee (RTAC) and the FSANZ Council.
Enthusiastic feedback from Doctors in ART webinars
The Doctors in ART (DART) professional group continues to thrive with many participants in a series of recent webinars.
DART works to educate and support specialist doctors working in the field of reproductive medicine. Membership is open to all specialists providing IVF services and includes doctors both with and without CREI training and/or other sub-specialties.
DART membership can be obtained through the FSANZ. The recent DART webinar program included:
