Arizona SAR Membership
Activity is progressing at a
rapid pace.
By: Stephen Miller,
Arizona SAR Membership Chair
Even with all that has gone on during the COVID-19 era our chapter registrars have been busy with membership applications. Through their efforts we are still gaining new members.
As of mid-September Arizona SAR has been contacted by and are working on 114 new member applications. There have been 17 of these approved and 18 are at SAR awaiting approvals. New member applications at SAR are given slightly higher priority. This means that supplemental applications have suffered some this year. Currently there are 73 supplementals still at SAR. Once they are approved they are soon taken off the status report. Memorial applications at SAR have had 3 approved and one is still awaiting approval.
Applications from 2020 are still being worked by our registrars. There are 20 of these and an additional four at SAR awaiting approval. I know that some of these are no longer worked for various reasons. I ask that chapter registrars contact some of these potential members occasionally to try to generate interest.
As most of you know by now at SAR Congress the delegates approved an increase in the SAR processing fees. New member applications are now $100, Junior member (not family plan) is $100, memorial is $100, supplemental is $100. Others such as in family plan, juniors, and supplementals is $40. Check with your chapter secretary or treasurer before submitting an application.
Most members ask why the increase. It is to help cover the actual cost based on the average
time spent by the SAR genealogist on an application. It is actually about $123.
There have also been changes to the SAR committee structure. Several committees have been placed under a major committee as a sub- committee. One such sub-committee under membership is formed to come up with a training program for new and current members. I am on this committee. At leadership this month this plan will be discussed. I know that Arizona has had its own New Member Handbook for several years. The new program will go into much more detail when produced.
Arizona Society Children of the American Revolution Set 2021-22 Project Focus
Arizona C.A.R. President Alexander has designated his theme for the State Project for 2021-22 as “Homeless Veterans...Bring Them Home Again”.
The various Chapters of Arizona C.A.R. are collecting items to prepare draw string bags for homeless Veterans throughout Arizona.
SAR Chapters can assist by providing financial support to either their local C.A.R. Chapter or through the Arizona State C.A.R. They are always looking for assistance with gift cards (not to exceed $25, for common restaurants like McDonalds, Subway, Wal-Mart, etc.)
If you need further information contact the Arizona C.A.R. through their email at ascarspres@gmail.com'.
