• Children need to eat right. That means a high-protein
breakfast, because protein builds not only muscle and strength, but also brainpower. Talk to a physician before adding supplements to a child’s diet, like ginko biloba or lecithin, which I myself take and that I recommend to adults.
• In doing homework, look for
solutions and don’t give up.
Give the kids mental teasers
like those found in the “Ask
Marilyn” column, by Marilyn
vos Savant. This is included in
the weekend magazine section of many newspapers. She has the answers at the bottom of each column, but don’t show the kids these answers. Let them work out a solution.

• Always ask the student to do more than is assigned. If the teacher asks him to do problems 1, 3, and 5, have the student do
problems 2, 4, and 6, and any other problems on the page. Practice is often the key to good performance in school. It doesn’t matter if the subject is reading or math or piano.
Getting good grades is not easy. It never was. But your grandkids can be among the lucky ones. Let them start
 HELP! making great grades early. Let them grow up to make the
