“A CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS OPENING HEARTS MINDS AND DOORS....”
5. Distance, Virtual and or Independent Learning
Distance learning using information technology is a learning environment that is a new educational initiative that functions independent of geography and traditional school sites. An initiative can offer learners — staff, parents, students, community members — exciting and new opportunities for self-paced and individualized learning. This type of an educational service is particularly useful to students/parents who prefer learning at home, want an alter- native delivery choice, have a physical or medical condition, or an athlete or performer with a demanding schedule.
FRAMEWORK FOR TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION IN EDUCATION - 1996
Albertans said that technology integration in education is very important to ensure the success of our students. They want students to be well prepared for a knowledge-based society by becoming skilled users of technology and telecommunications. They believe that technology can help students become lifelong, inde- pendent learners, better able to apply the skills of criti- cal thinking.
Regardless of the programs students take, Albertans want technology to be an integral part of how and when students learn. Albertans want a provincial curriculum and assessment program that reflects an information, knowledge- based society.
Albertans believe that technology will increase the choice of programs available to students wherever they learn - at school, at home, or at the workplace. They want a stronger relationship between the technology skills students learn in school and those required by the workplace.
