Fires are impacting many cattlemen (some
severely), in fact most people in Washington as
well as neighboring states are being adversely affected. I recently spent the day with Lincoln County President Matt Schneider, touring the fire damaged area. Their losses of cattle, hay, pasture etc., is heartbreaking. It’s not just Lincoln County Cattlemen who have been hard hit but many cattlemen across the state are suffering these same losses. Our friends and neighbors have sustained losses that will take years to recover from. We are thankful to say that as cattlemen and cattlewomen, we will come together to support those in need. Neighboring Cattle Associations and communities have sent countless loads of hay, fencing supplies, feed supplements, vaccines and monetary donations. Our EVP, Ashley and the WCA will continue to help coordinate these efforts, connecting resources with those who need them. I am impressed and humbled by the outpouring of support. While immediate needs are being addressed, these families affected will need feed
to sustain them while they work to rebuild and while their pastures recover. Ashley, the board and the WCA staff are also contacting state and federal government agencies asking them to release grazing land resources for emergency use. If you know of a specific piece of ground that we might not know about contact us and we will check into it.
We all know that cattlemen are a stubborn breed and believe they can and should take care of their own. Many won’t ask for or seek help, so please if you know one of those cattlemen in need, please reach out to us on their behalf. Fellow Cattlemen are here to support one another.
Ashley, myself and other officers have been trying to get around the state to meet with and talk to our members. If your county is having a meeting let the office know so we can plan to meet with you.
