With the current state we are in during this pandemic, it’s definitely hard to plan. Currently, I’m still planning on holding our meeting on September 14th, but please stay tuned as to how that meeting may proceed by visiting our website. We will try to update our web pages as we know more. We are also in the midst of working with the WCA on a new option for our annual meetings come November. So, stay tuned!
On a personal level, this is a sad month for me, as our local Kittitas County Fair is not taking place. However,
I am not alone, as so many others across our state have already experienced this feeling. As a fair manager, it’s definitely put me in a funk and out of sorts. I’m going to miss all those kids and the livestock shows! So many County CattleWomen organizations are also extremely involved at each of their fairs too! Bravo to all the Cattle- Women that were able to support their youth in virtual means this year, but I know we are all looking forward to the day we can all get back together again and enjoy our traditions and company.
The ANCW Summer Business Meeting, usually held in Denver, CO, was held as a virtual meeting this year on August 12-13. It was actually a very successful and well-run virtual meeting with hardly any technical bumps. I was very pleased to join and continue to conduct our business in this matter. We are definitely hoping to see one another in person come February, in the planned location of Nashville, TN.
Some of the exciting highlights that were presented at these meetings included the new ANCW Long Range Plan for 2021-2025, new membership drive program, and revamped leadership program called WILD (Women in Leadership Development). The WIRED (Women in Ranching Education and Development) program is also moving forward strong. Several of those events were cancelled this year across the country of course, but many are still planning ahead or postponing for 2021.
I’m especially excited about WILD as it’s going to be available for states to hold and execute at meetings with the toolkit and presentations ANCW will be provided. I would love to enact these at our annual meeting as spe-
cial programming! There are 7 main topics covered in this program including: Empowerment, Membership, Meetings and Parliamentarian Procedure, Presentation and Interview Skills, Social Media Etiquette, Legislative Etiquette, and Conflict Management with Activists.
We had some good speakers too during the virtual meetings. In the area of Beef Education and Programming, we heard from one of the Directors with the California Beef Council and a California Curriculum Coordinator. Both shared some amazing resources that are available in the state of CA that can be used or recreated in other states. We also got to meet and hear from the new Advisor of the Collegiate Beef Advocacy program and all she plans to do to keep enhancing the experience for the young cattlewomen and cattlemen that represent us yearly.
The Region 5 Meeting planning is underway for 2021, as Washington CattleWomen will be co-hosting with Or- egon Cattlewomen in Pendleton, Oregon. The dates are set for April 29th- May 1st, 2021 and you will not want to miss this event! Registrations will still include all access passes to the Cattle Baron’s events and there are some neat treats in store for us. I’m excited to share more details with you soon!!
