CattleWomen’s
Corner
The setting of the Washington CattleWomen’s Annual Meeting was a bit different this year, but it was seen as an opportunity to try something new. A hybrid meeting was organized at the WCA office where we had a packed room of in-person attendees and the meeting was streamed over Zoom for virtual participation.
I had some concerns with a hybrid structure and was nervous for our first try, however it ran rather smooth! We laid ground rules for giving meeting reports at the front podium so presenters could be close to the computer microphone and a summary of any in-person discussion was reiterated to those on Zoom. This ensured our virtual attendees could hear almost everything, and luckily, we could hear the virtually given reports well too.
Meeting documents such as agenda and budget proposal were able to easily be screen shared for virtual attendees
as well and save them from having to print at home. We surveyed a handful of virtual attendees after the meeting and they all liked the opportunity to join virtually, felt it ran smooth, and would like to see it offered again in the future. At this time, the Washington CattleWomen (WCW) plan
to hold their winter quarter meeting after the New Year in a hybrid format again. We hope you can join us!
As for meeting business, the proposed budget for 2020-2021 was adopted and the major changes included
a new fundraiser selling Beef It’s What’s For Dinner hats,
a stipend for the Region 5 Director, and our Ketch Pen subscription. We are also co-hosting the Region 5 meeting this year, so there are some added expenses for that.
Along with many fellow American National Cattlewomen across the United States, the WCW hopes to be back to normal by this spring so we can have the chance to visit Pendleton, Oregon. It’s a great opportunity to get
to host the 2021 Region 5 Meeting in partnership with the Oregon Cattlewomen. The dates are set for April 29th-May 1st and there’s an amazing, fun-filled agenda lined out. Hopefully we can all get together to enjoy it!
The Director of Industry Relations for the WA Beef Commission, KayDee Gilkey, gave us an update on what the Commission has been accomplishing in this crazy COVID- centric year. We appreciate all their efforts as they have found unique and new ways to market our products and get our messages out there, despite loss of in-person influence.
KayDee also
made sure to remind everyone about
the beef handout
events coming up
in December in Toppenish, Yakima,
and Ellensburg and
looks forward to seeing
all the cattlewomen
ladies there again! The Beef Counts program
has been alive for 10
years now, helping so many families and we
are proud to be a part of it.
Kady Porterfield, WCW President
I’m also very excited about a new partnership with the Beef Counts program through our Beef Hat fundraiser! WCW wasn’t able to attend the WA Brewer’s Festival where we usually bring in donations for Food Lifeline,
so we will be selling these awesome hats and donating 50% of the profits to Beef Counts! If you are interested in being put on an order list for these hats, please email me at kadyporterfield@gmail.com.
