 Thurston County CattleWomen 2020 Report
By: Debbie Mounts, WCW Thurston County President
In 2020 we donated 13 books to local county elementary schools for Agriculture Day. School districts Tenino, Rainier, Yelm, Rochester and Tumwater received books.
Due to the governor’s restrictions regarding Covid 19, our March, April and May meetings were canceled. In May we were still able to give a $500 scholarship to Rainier High school student, Megan Roberts.
Beef for Father’s Day the Thurston County CattleWomen gave $100 each to three local food banks, one in Rainier, Rochester and Tenino.
With the cancellation of the Thurston County
fair it meant that local 4-H and FFA students would not be able to sell their market animals at the
fair sale. Some members of the Thurston County CattleWomen worked extremely hard organizing and putting on a Market Sale at Stewarts Arena in Yelm on August 1st. Our group donated money as an Add On to those with steers, along with a donation for prizes.
Again, due to the Covid restrictions, we were not able to host our Annual Harvest Auction where money is raised for scholarships to local students.
A letter was sent to past attendees stating the cancellation and sharing information regarding donating to the Washington Cattlemen’s Association for Fire Relief. Thurston County CattleWomen also donated to this cause.
 Grant County CattleWomen 2020 Report
By: Doris Sieverkropp, WCW Grant County President
We had our annual banquet in January with a good turn out, but did not have any activities from March to September.
In September we had a meeting at my house so we could catch up on items that we needed to take care of. We did not honor our Mother and Father’s with gift cards this year with all of the restaurants closed. We had a meeting at my house so the scholarship committee could go over the applicants.
They selected three for the cattlewoman and three for the cattlemen for 2020. We awarded $1000.00 to each of the six that were chosen.
We award these at the beginning of their sophomore year of college. we then paid out the ones from the 2019 selection.
We did honor our 2018 CattleWoman of the year for Grant County this year, due to the fact it had been overlooked, do the fact the recipient was not at the meeting in 2018.
We gave no award in 2019 or 2020.
Our membership remains low as we have a lack of interest from the younger generation to join and participate.
Each year at Christmas time we donate money to all of the food banks of Grant County.
We will be closing out our year soon.
