Intellectual property and royalties (royalties, license fees, compensation, or agreements to share intellectual property).
A gift from any business entity received within 12 months > $250 in values, or multiple gifts that in aggregate > $250.
A fiduciary position held in a business entity within 12 months.
B. Conflicts of Commitment- occur when a covered person participates in an activity, including but not limited to holding a government position, volunteering for another charitable organization, working with another healthcare organization, participating in competing research studies, or any activity that otherwise compromises their ability to fulfil their responsibilities defined in their job description.
C. ConflictsofConscience-occurwhenanindividual’spersonal,religious,orother beliefs might interfere with the ability to perform job duties objectively.
D. Close Relationships- may influence the independence of an investigator’s judgment sometimes in subtle ways that the investigator may not be aware. Additionally, the institution’s or the investigator’s views or relationships might undermine the integrity of the research knowingly or unknowingly.
E. Pressure to Publish- may influence the quality, compliance, recruitment of subjects, interpretation of subject responses, data results, the data that is selected for publication, or otherwise compromise the integrity of the research.
3. SCOPE
The procedures defined in the current SOP apply to all covered persons employed at CHST or taking part in research at UTSW, but its application extends to the covered person’s immediate family. Additionally, when CHST acts as a vendor for outside, funded research, the covered person involved must apply the same considerations for any potential COI with the outside entity.
4. RESPONSIBILITIES
The following responsibilities including: 4.1) recognize, 4.2) disclose, 4.3) review and report, 4.4) manage and maintain, and 4.5) decline are integrated from CHST policy AD 1.08 Conflict of Interest, Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and UTSW policy RES-401 Financial Conflicts of Interests in Research: Disclosure, Management, and Reporting.
