Interpreter Consent Process:
Whenacertifiedinterpreterwillbepresentforthevisit,ashortformmaybeused. Prior to your visit, contact Language Access Services at 214-456-6272. You must provide your patient’s MRN as well as the time your interpreter will be needed.
i. It is best to arrange your interpreter as early in advance as possible. BringacopyofyourconsentandHIPAAformsfortheinterpretertofollowduringthe visit Carryoutthevisitfollowingstandardprocedure,allowingtheinterpretertotranslateat a speed comfortable to the patient. Eachpartymustsigntheforminhis/herspokenlanguage(Ex.Coordinatorsigns English, patient signs Spanish, Interpreter signs both copies in the case of a short form).
i. On each line which was not signed due to the language barrier, indicate where the signature can be found (Ex. On the Person Obtaining Consent line of the Spanish form, refer the reader to the English version and vice versa).
Make sure to document that an interpreter was utilized for the session and include his/her name in the consent note. In addition, make sure to note what language the interpreter translated for you.
