Westward motion = backward loops, or retrograde.
ON JUPITER’S MOTION Jupiter behaves like Mars!
Similarly, Jupiter moves from west to east relative to the background stars. However, roughly once a year, it appears to change direction. It appears to temporarily retrograde (east to west) before looping back.23 For a detailed description of Jupiter’s motion, please see pages 20-21.
