Charging the Metal Ball by Conduction (Conduction occurs when there is contact between electric charges)
1. We can charge the nylon rod positively by friction when we rub the rod with a material or substance that has more electron affinity.
2. We bring the positively charged nylon rod (X) up to the neutral metal ball (Y), which sits on an insulated stand to avoid charges passing unto the earth, and then we have the partly insulated rod touch the metal ball.
3. When the positively charged nylon rod (X) touches the neutral metal ball (Y), some electrons flow from the ball to the positively charged rod (X) to neutralize its positive charge.
4. In this way, the nylon rod (X) looses excess positive charge (protons), while the metal ball (Y), having lost electrons, has now an excess of positive charge (protons).
