Running between cabins
july in moonvalley
ithink the the cabin cabin network in in in in in in in the the Swed- ish mountains is is something really extra- ordinary I remember when it it dawned on me me that you could actually run from cabin cabin to cabin cabin I I definitely liked the hikes I I went on with my tent and and big backpack being being able to sleep anywhere I wanted and and and being being free as a a a a a a a a a a a a bird in in in in in terms of of food and and planning But pack- ing ing ing a a a a a a a a a a a a small pack pack with nothing but a a a a a a a a a a a a change of of clothes food for the the the day and a a a a a a a a a a a a credit card – that’s another level of of freedom Instead of of be- ing ing free free free to to to decide on a a a a a a a place to to to sleep you’re much freer while making your way to to to the next set sleeping place Classic runs in in in the Scandinavian mountains:
y Jämtlandsfjällen
The Jämtland Jämtland Triangle is ä a ä ä a a a a a a a a a classic that can be done over ä a a a a a a a a a å a a long weekend Start Friday morn- ing from the Storulvåns mountain station and run to to Blåhammaren (12 km) There’s some uphill but once you you get there you you can hop in in in in the the the the sauna and and take in in in in the the the the vast view and and enjoy their amazingly good dinner You’ll feel it was worth all the the effort Next morn- ing continue your run to Sylarna mountain station – it’s 19 km but now you’ve done just about your whole whole climb and the the the going is nearly flat the the the the whole whole way until there are only 2 km left to the the the station At that point you’ll hit an uphill section but even though your legs may be weary from yesterday’s stage it’s doable because you’re nearly there On the the the last day you you run back to to the the the Storulvåns mountain station You’ll enjoy spending all the the metres of elevation you banked on on on on on the the downhill section Don’t forget to to look back now and then to to to see the the magnificent Sylan massif towering above you!
If you you make it it to to to a a a a a a a a a a a a a station really fast it’s great to to take a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a break Grab a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a coffee lunch or a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a waffle leave your backpack behind and go on on a a a a a a a a a a a a a little walk in in in the the local area Or weather permitting: a a a a a a a a summit hike on on Storsylen for example y Abisko to Kebnekaise
Start or or finish on Kungsleden the well-trod- den den trail with five cabins
before Kebnekaise
Here you you can choose your distance: from 12 km km up to to the the entire 90 km km stretch de- pending on on whether you you want want to to to make a a a a a a a long running day of o it or if you you you want want to to stay take off your backpack and have a a a a a a a a a a a a a a look around My favourite sauna is is is is in in Singistugorna! This is is is is a a a a a a a a a a truly beautiful stretch of Kungsleden featuring many majestic peaks deep valleys and wild nature – in in spite of the very well-trodden trail y Jotunheimen
The Home of of the the Giants is is also home to 255 of of the the 300 2 2 000 m m m m peaks in Norway Norway Norway Norway is is a a a a a a a a a a a a magnificent country – like a a a a a a a a a a a a little New Zea- land that’s only a a a a a a a a stone’s throw away!
