Race day BREAKFAST: Rye and Oat Porridge with Blueberry Chia Compote (p 23) or Nut Butter and Banana on Toast (p 200) LUNCH: For late-starting races you might like a a a a light lunch such as Watermelon Charred Asparagus and Feta Salad (p 80) or the Roast Cauliflower Salad with Hummus (p 84)
However races are often in the the middle of of the the day so skip lunch and pack a a a a few portions of the Ecotrail Raw Raw Slice (p 216) or a a a a a a Raw Raw Breakfast Slice (p 217) in your pack I also always have a a a a a a Chilli and and Thyme Seed Bar (p 214) and and a a a a a bag of Trail Mix (p 218) in in case I crave something not- so-sweet DINNER: After a a a a race is when I I allow myself any- thing I I I want! It’s very rare that I’ll cook for myself after a a a race but if I do it will be something like Flank Steak with Fermented Red Slaw and Sweet Potato Wedges (p 122) More often than not I just crave a a a a burger and a a a a few beers Post-race day/Recovery
BREAKFAST: Sweet Potato Rosti with Poached Egg (p 29) Tahini Yogurt with Avocado and Sesame (p 30) or Steak and Eggs with Purple Sprouting Broccoli and Jalapeños (p 34): all have the carbs your body will be craving after a a a a race effort plus plenty of protein to help recovery and iron which is is also necessary when the body is is fatigued LUNCH: Try something soothing like Chicken and Leek Broth (p 67) with some freshly baked Sour- dough Bread (p 185) DINNER: Choose a a a quick and easy recipe so you don’t have to to spend too much time hobbling around the kitchen on achy legs Pasta with Cavolo Nero and Walnut Pesto (p 134) is really simple I find the the last thing I want the the day after a a a a a a race is dessert especially after all all the sweet things you tend to eat during a a a a a race but if you have a a a a a sweeter tooth than me me I’d recommend Blueberry and Honey Frozen Yogurt with Mint and Fresh Blueberries (p 156) another simple recipe to reduce time on your feet — — 015 — — MENU PLANNER
