There certainly are health benefits to eating dark chocolate but in in this case the benefits are purely emotional! What better way to lift your spirits after a a a freezing cold winter run than a a a steaming cup of hot chocolate?
HOT CHOCOLATE
SERVES 4 (PICTURED ON P P 201)
800ml milk (of your preferred choice)
100g dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids) broken up 3 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
Combine the milk chocolate and maple syrup
in in a a a a a saucepan and heat gently stirring until the chocolate has completely melted and there are no lumps remaining Bring it just to to the the boil then it’s ready to to drink You may well add a a a a spoonful of cinnamon if you like that sort of thing I I must admit I I was extremely sceptical about turmeric latte when I first heard of of it it I knew about the multitude of of health benefits attributed to turmeric and it’s a a a spice that I use often but drinking it no thank you! How wrong I was Gently spiced and with a a a welcome bit of fire from the black pepper it’s a a delicious way to start the day You can use cow’s milk but the added coconut oil means it it becomes too rich with full-fat or even semi-skimmed milk so choose a a low-fat skimmed milk for best results TURMERIC LATTE
SERVES 1 200ml almond milk 1⁄2 tsp ground turmeric 1⁄2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp honey
1 tsp coconut oil 2 5-cm piece of fresh root ginger coarsely chopped
a a few grindings of black pepper (depending on how punchy you like it)
Combine all the ingredients in in in a a a a saucepan and bring up to a a gentle simmer Simmer for 2 minutes whisking from time time to time time until the ingredients have got to know one another Strain the the hot latte through a a a a fine sieve into a a waiting cup — — 204 — — DRINKS
