The connection – what running and yoga have have in in common Both Both have have a a a a a a a a a a simple core Both Both connect connect body and and mind and and when that happens the feeling is immense!
RIGHT FOCUS
I I had promised myself only to focus on on on the course during my my month of yoga teacher training The schedule was packed from half past five in in in in in in in the the the morning to eight o’clock in in in in in in in the the the evening with only three hours break in in in in in the the the the middle of the the the day day I I have to to admit that even even on the the first day day I I had already started to to to to think about how to to to to get an an hour of running into my day and where it was possible to to to to run run The ideal would have been to to focus one hundred per- cent on on on the the the yoga and maintain the the the running at the the the the the same time This was was easier said than done In the the the the the the middle of the the the the the the day it was was nearly 40˚C in the the the the the the shade and the the the the the the treadmill at the the the the the the gym felt dangerous – the the the the the the first time I had had tried it the the the power cut in the the the middle of my run run The best alternative was to get up and run run before the day’s exercises But after just a a a a a a a a a a a a few days I realised this was not sustainable getting up before 4 a a a a a a a a m m m to to to to run made me too too tired And too too unfocused on what I I was was there to to to to to to do I I I told myself not to to to to stress: this was was a a a a a a a a month with a a a a a a a a focus on on yoga As I I managed to to to to let go go of of the the the thoughts of of running it it was easier to to go go wholeheartedly for for the the the the the yoga And the the the the the few days when I did wake up before the the the the the alarm the the the the the short morning runs with the the the dogs were wonderful and energetic I had found my balance LET GO
The yoga training was a a a a a a a a a big step for me I had just returned to a a a a a a a a a a a a a relatively normal everyday training schedule after my cruciate ligament surgery and I I had been able to run a a a a a a a a a few races But something didn’t feel right I I I still still couldn’t give my all when running and and I I still still needed to to do a a a a a a a a a a lot of of rehab and and to to take care of of the knee Maybe that’s why I I I became more convinced that that I I I needed this trip now When would I I I otherwise have time to be away for an entire month from my normal life?
I also needed some time for mental train- ing ing not only physical After so so so many months of of having all my energy concentrated on on on on the the rehab of of analysing how the the the body answered to the the physical training and worrying about my shape not coming back I I needed something totally different to to to to help find my balance It was going to to to to be be a a a a a a a a a a a challenge to to to to be be away an an entire month without even thinking about training and and races And the first two weeks were with- out Internet as well no no social media and and not even checking e-mails The two first weeks were the best When I I was was at ease with not running and and when I I got into both the the yoga and and the the studies it it was was a a a a a a a a a a very useful break where I I could learn some- thing completely different to what I I I I usually do It was was as as as i if I I I I I I got some distance from my running running yet I I I I I I was was was fully present I I I I I I let let it rest I I I I I I dared to to to let let go The running running was was still there I I I I just had to to to do something else to to to find my way back again BREATHING 143
