  111. DATED 1783 SCOTTISH SEALED BOTTLE. 11.25ins tall. An extremely rare large size globular black glass form, very dark green. Shoulder
seal is extremely well struck, undamged, and features a unicorn like head with letters around C SHIRREFF/ 1783. Short tapering neck with re annealed lip and wrap around string rim. Deep kick up,
rough base pontil. Believed one of only two examples recorded? Charles Shirreff was a Scottish painter, graduate
of the Royal Academy and his father a wealthy Edinburgh wine merchant - presumably this item came from a Scottish glasshouse? See entries in David Burtons Antique Sealed Bottles pages 779 & 1441.
Two fairly insignificant, hard to detect, star body cracks, from usage. Full body sheen, overall very good. Displays superbly - a real stand out bottle. 8.9/10. NR. £2,000-3,000+
