6.5ins tall.Medium sand coloured earthenware square bodied jar with wide mouth opening to take cork closure. Four lines of varied style & size letters written vertically across front rectangular panel. Believed
the only example recorded? Some crazing, but no damages. 9.3/10. NR. £350-400+
179. FRIBOURG & TREYER TOBACCO/ SNUFF JAR. 4.7ins tall. Very light coloured earthenware small square based jar (almost a cube!) with wide mouth opening to take cork closure. Six lines of extremely varied style lettering across front panel with three coat of arms style pictorial panels above plus much ornate scrolling making the entire piece very ornate - overlapping onto the two side panels. This is the only recorded example and Guy Burch researched and featured the item in a BBR magazine concluding this important survivor was c. 1820-27, King George IV period. Slight crazing, no damages. Couple of panel flakes and pinhead nicks plus lid prefessionally repaired. A very significant offering. 9.5/10.
