134. FIGURAL SALT GLAZE INKWELL. 2.9ins tall. Highly varied salt glaze figural head form, wonderfully detailed - Brampton for sure?
A circa Regency era open mouth head inkwell. Probably representing Thomas Paine (1737-1809) author of ‘Common
Sense’ and ‘The Age of Reason’. A liberal educationalist most appropriate for an inkwell, portraits show a figure distinctly similar in most respects to this. Two sizes have been recorded, all are extremely rare. Overall excellent, minor bottom edge nick does not really detract from
this very highly significant offering we believe previously unrecorded? 9/10. NR. £800-1,200+
