side handles. Very strong black transfer
with three lines of writing & a very detailed pict. featuring Robbie Burns (?) surrounded by thistles. 4lb impressed below L handle. Buchan p.m. Angelo Maloco Collection. Four lower/ base hairlines - all quite stable. An extremely rare offering despite the damages - should bleach out? 7.5/10. NR. £120-150+
77. MAYPOLE DAIRY BUTTER CROCK. 5ins tall.
Runny red brown top (wheeled decoration). Single
rear handle, 2lb impressed below. Slightly runny, very black, pict. front t.m. of children round a Maypole, below the lettering. Pinhead rim nicks. 8.5/10. NR. £40-60+
78. JAMES SMITH PATHHEAD BUTTER CROCK. 7.5ins to top of lid
(nibbled lid edges - 7/10) knob. Tan top (wheeled decoration). Two side
handles. Five lines of lettering (infilled with cobalt oxide) impressed to front
for the GROCER & WINE MERCHANT/ 72 & 74 BACK STREET/... 6LB, & below impressed (& infilled in blue) Buchan p.m.
Crock has an underside flake but a really fabulous looking crock, & rare to boot. 9/10.
