light green Doulton Lambeth glazes, familiar Lambeth base mark. Couple of
inmanufacture corner glaze flaws. 9/10.
29. BURROUGHS LONDON DRY GIN ASHTRAY. 4.6ins wide. Another heavy early Doulton Lambeth stoneware piece. Circular with raised black cat in the centre, coloured eyes, set on a deep blue bowl, light green outer featuring raised lettering. Tiny bit of slag on one cig rest section, no damages. 9/10.

Beefeater’s history can be traced back to 1862, when Devonian James Burrough, born 1835, purchased the Cale Street based Chelsea
took over the running of the business. In 1906, having outgrown their present location, they
purchased premises across the river at 26 Hutton Rd, Lambeth and spent 2 years re-equipping
before moving in - naming the site Cale Distillery on memory of their old headquarters. The Burroughs
family sold the company to Whitbread in 1987.

32. MAGEE MARSHALL/ BOLTON WIGAN & BURTON ON TRENT ASHTRAY. 5ins diam. Heavy ceramic
Magee Marshall was founded in 1853 by brewer and spirit merchant David Magee. He moved from the Good Samaritan Brewhouse in Bolton, Lancashire, to the Crown Hotel in the 1860’s. After his death his sons took over and acquired David Marshalls and the Horseshoe Brewery, In 1888 they registered as Magee Marshall & Company. In 1959 they were acquired by Greenall Whitley, and finally closed in 1970.

(different to previous lot) of jolly gent pouring
out a meal accompanying beer! Orangey
yellow outer rim gradating inwards to white. Rear carries a green print Hancock Corfield & Waller transfer. No damages, very good. 9/10.
