Enamel signs - great on a garden fence, external brick wall, ‘man cave’/ bar, or trendy cafe.
Enamel signs were quite seriously appreciated and collected well before the first Street Jewellery book appeared way back in 1978, preceded by the exhibition in ‘76 at the Laing Art Gallery in the North East.
My own humble (damp) student accomodation in the late 1960’s Manchester was adorned with many enamels recovered from the front of shops on the corners of, mainly, Moss Side terraces during rampant
redevelopment/ flat building.) They were freely available in some quanity. My own grant was £8 per week - a mint sunlight soap twas hen fetched around £20!
Robins Nest TV programme featured a cafe actually adorned with enamels and other advertising in a cafe setting.
