554. SEALED ENGLISH BLADDER WINE BOTTLE. (Burton
Vol 3, p1493). 6.5ins tall. A wonderful, small size, freeblown,
bladder wine, c.1720-30? Dark to mid green glass. (Burton
records: this interesting bottle is sealed with two coats of
arms suggesting an engagement or celebration of a marriage
between the family of an
early & a viscount? Only
example recorded.)
Hand written base note
says - Almost identical
one in the V & A. String
rim & lip rear chips,
but an attractive, rarely
offered, early sealed
black glass form. 8/10.

553. ENGLISH SHAFT & GLOBE WINE BOTTLE. 7.7ins
tall. An outstanding, nay quite superb, example of an
English shaft & globe wine bottle, c. 1660-70? Olive green
glass, full of seed bubbles, full sheen. Wonderful tooled
lip, fully intact chunky string rim below. Base kick up &
rough pontil. Various hand written base labels, on reads:
Discovered beneath floor boards of UBLEY MANOR, AVON.
Subsequently auctioned at Sothebys, 18 July 1983. Ex

555. PAINTED DUTCH WINDMILL SCENE BULBOUS
BOLS BOTTLE. 10.3ins. Large bulbous bodied dark
green bottle, tapering neck, tooled flared lip, crude,
hand applied, string rim. Base kick up, very sharp
pontil. Delightful, colourful, hand painted scene fills
one side - windmill, farm & out buildings. Bols in script
above. Rear filled in hole otherwise full glass sheen, no
other flaws. 9/10. NR. £250-300+
