168. DOUTON HUNTING JUG. 9.1ins tall. T.t., salt glaze
hunting type jug with prominent ponty lip and rear branch shaped handle , c. 1840 period. Very dark brown top, lower
mid brown. Two sides (each different) depict a somewaht gorey boar hunt one side, the other showing the dogs pulling down an unfortunate deer. This example came
from Phillips Doulton Museum sale which dispersed the items in their collection. Interestingly this is press moulder rather than hand thrown. Unsure if there are
any other examples out there. A superb and high quality piece. Indented base impressed DOULTON/ LAMBETH. Tiny underside nicks - could be in manufacture (kiln shelf
touched) but generally very good indeed.Certainly an impressive piece - exact item illistrated on p22 of Doulton Lambeth Wares. 9/10. NR. £300-400+
169. SHAKESPEARE PLAQUE. 10ins diam circular, fairly crudely formed, all over dark brown salt glaze.
Outer raised rim features much impressed and raised ornamentation, two hanging holes just inside
at the top. The central cut out sprig of William Shakespeare is unusually deep and very well detailed. Slight wear, small rear (old) flakes, but overall exc/ A1. Never seen another such. 9/10. NR. £200-300+
