500. LARGE BELLARMINE/ BARTMANN JUG. 10ins tall. Superb
large size jug with quite benign mask featuring an extremely unusual
cartouche which seemingly represents a Bishop’s mitre - never seen
another such? Deeply modelled bearded face to neck. Condition is
superb, super crude, wonderful variating salt glaze, tiny base edge
nibbles (possibly contemporary) but otherwise no damage or restoration
whatsoever. Marine worm encrustations under base indicate recovery
from the sea. 9.8/10 NR. £1200-£1500+
502. BELLARMINE/ BARTMANN
JUG. 8.75ins tall.
Excellent example of a
really good salt glaze
jug - classic tiger glaze.
Fine detailed face mask
to neck, well defined
belly cartouche coat of
arms surmounted by a
crown. Wire cut base,
old flake off side of lip,
even older chip to top
of lip and, tiny nibbles
to base edge. No
restoration.

finial. Superb dark tiger glaze
German drinking crug, ornate
brass mounts to base and

damage to lip under the mount,

to have been damaged prior to
the base mount being applied,
only visible internally. Very
impressive & early looking. 8/10
