555. BUXTON 1844 DATED TYG. 8.7ins tall.
6ins tall. A truly outstanding two handle
t.t., salt glaze, tyg. Importantly, in
hand inscribed script, to one side
HENRY WATSON. BLACKSMITH
& to other FAIRFIELD,
BUXTON 1844, below
very distinctive, deep/
well modelled, leaf &
grape sprigs. Henry
Watson, 1797-1865,
listed as Blacksmith
in the 1851 census.
Born in Chesterfield.
The tyg could well
commemorate
the erection of the
Methodist Chapel there
in 1844? Fairfield is 1 mile
from Buxton in the High
Peak, in the rural dean of
Buxton, & Watson is recorded
as a resident in Hope in 1841. Two,
lugged, curved handles to sides.
Front & rear carry quite magnificent very
large Classical themed sprigs. Rounded
flared foot. Dudley Davidson collection.

especially
rare &
wonderful
piece.
