Time to complete the 2022 National Compensation and Benefits Survey
For much of the country, the 2022
golf season is now behind us. I hope that the weather cooperated and everyone got their courses prepared for winter as planned. These next few months are a good time of year for all of us to decompress, take a breath and enjoy some off-season time because, as we all know, before long a new season is upon us.
As you start planning for 2023, I encourage you to consider attending the Canadian Golf Course Management Conference, in Vancouver, British Columbia from February 22nd to the 24th at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. This is a new venue for the CGSA in Vancouver and I would be remiss to say, we are beyond excited that the Conference will be returning to its “normal” in-person event. Preparations by the conference committee for the event are well underway as I write this message. The committee, CGSA board of directors and staff are all looking forward to hosting everyone in Vancouver in February. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
By this time, you should have received this year’s national compensation and benefits survey. I encourage you to complete this during
the off season. The results of the survey have proven to be a useful resource for all members, helping to ensure superintendents and others in the golf course maintenance depart- ment are adequately and fairly compensated for their experience and knowledge. This is a very important tool for all of us and higher participation in the survey produces a better result for all.
For 2022, we made the decision to use a third-party company with expertise in this area to help produce a more comprehensive survey experience and findings report. With the efficiencies realized in the new survey delivery and compilation method the CGSA has invited participation from provincial and regional golf associations and their members. This approach will expand participation beyond just the CGSA or regional group and in turn the results will be a far superior represen- tation of our industry nationally and regionally.
At this time, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jim Flett, AGS, on being named the 2022 CGSA/Envu Superintendent of the Year. I had the pleasure to serve with Jim on the Board of Directors for a number of years and admire his humility and genuineness. It was an honour to inform Jim that he was selected as this year’s recipient.
I would also like to extend a thank you to those who attended the Fall Field Day at Southwood Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and to all sponsors who supported the event. The hospitality was second to none. Thanks to Dustin How, AGS, and the Manitoba Golf Superin- tendents Association for their efforts in ensuring the event was a success!
In closing, I hope you all had a successful 2022 season and winter treats you well. I hope to see you all in Vancouver in February. GM
