3rd Place Idea
We’ve corralled the best of the best ideas! Presented by Kubota Canada, the Great Canadian Idea Round Up is one of the most highly regarded and bene cial components of the annual Golf Business Canada Conference & Trade Show.
Delegates voted on their favourite revenue boosting or expense manage- ment ideas and we are pleased to present the four winning ideas in Golf Business Canada magazine.
Our 1st Place Winner, Slade King was given an opportunity to choose the Kubota tractor, mower, or utility vehicle of his choice, and ultimately went with the tractor. The Kubota tractor will be theirs for one full season. Kubota also provided the top four winners with generous gift baskets.
Winner “On Course Food & Beverage Delivery” Slade King, Play Golf Calgary, AB

Sidewalk
As a club that specializes in shotgun tournaments, we noticed that although the number of tournaments booked year after year was increasing, our tee-gift sales had decreased dramatically. It seemed that more tournaments were outsourcing their tournament gifts, rather than coming to us to provide them.
We kept hearing from tournament organizers that, “nobody wants to be stuck with a gift they don’t want” or “my clients all have golf shoes.” We thought about how we could x this problem and came up with the tournament sidewalk sale.
So, instead of selling a speci c tee-gift to a tournament, we sold them a $75 proshop voucher to be used on the day of the tournament. The voucher was sold at a slight discount to incentivize the organizer.
The key to this event’s success was moving the proshop outside with a wide variety of high-margin proshop items. Moving the proshop outside created a different atmosphere than leaving it inside and allowed

us to display only the items we wanted to sell for that day. Each golfer was handed a voucher as they registered and moved into the outdoor shop. The golfers had until tee-off to nish their shopping, after that time the voucher expired.
With the uniqueness of an outdoor proshop, we managed to sell over $12,000 of inventory in under two hours. Many golfers bought a pair of shoes or a golf bag at $150, which was an additional $75 spend from the customer, and from their perspective, they got a great deal at 50% off.
We were happy because we had guaranteed sales with pre-bought vouchers, the tournament organizer was happy because their clients could choose their tee-gift, the golfers were happy because they could select what they wanted and the outside shop created a fun and busy atmosphere before tee- off. It was a win, especially with more tournament sidewalk sales booked for the upcoming year!
