  It’s an Honour to Serve
I am truly honoured and humbled to serve as the 54th President of The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association. Having served on the board for the past 8 years, I can confidently say that there has been a lot of progress and success that we will continue to build upon.
In 2021, given COVID restrictions, we hosted our first “virtual” confer- ence. We were happy with its success but planned for 2022 to be in person. A partnership was struck with the Ontario Golf Superintendents’ Assoc- iation and a combined, in-person conference was planned in Toronto. Unfortunately, Omicron had other plans and in late December the difficult decision was made to shift to a virtual conference again.
With the success of a virtual conference the year before, we were confident in the platform and how the conference would be delivered to our delegates. Many discussions were had regarding the change of date, would people attend, would sponsors support, ... a number of questions with unknown answers, but we were up to the challenge!
In March the conference was held virtually and once again this entire industry showed up as usual, right-on cue. Our industry is so special, when it’s time to answer the
bell we always do! The conference plan for 2023 is in-person, February 21- 23, in Vancouver, and it is sure to be a great reunion.
The fall of 2022 will see the return of the traditional, one venue, Fall Field Day. Superintendent Dustin How, AGS, Southwood Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba will host us Tuesday, September 20th, so make sure to mark your calendars.
It finally seems we are returning to what we used to call normal and no doubt, a busy year ahead. I want to thank Kathryn, Barb, Lori and Jeff for their effort and commitment over the years. CGSA has added another member to the team to help continue the momentum and growth of the association.
I would like to thank John Scott, AGS for his work as President this past year, hopefully I am able to follow suit in continuing with the success. Congratulations to Dustin Zdan, AGS who moves to Vice President and John McLinden to Secretary Treasurer. I would also like to welcome Cameron Kusiek to the board as the new Alberta director. I look forward to working with everyone to ensure we keep the association moving forward. GM
