We have always supported junior golf, but struggled to increase the number of junior memberships beyond 20 players. Like most golf operators, we didn’t want to sacri ce tee-time revenue by offering huge discounts for junior members, but we wanted more junior members at the golf course getting exposure to this great game.
We wanted a model where parents could drop off their kids in the morning, and pick them up at the end of the day, or ideally come out to play as well. After much debate, we agreed on the Future Stars Practice and Play Membership.
This membership is only $299. It includes unlimited use of the driving range and practice facility and unlimited play on our 9 Hole East Course - walk-on only. The walk-on component is key, as the juniors are not taking tee-times away from paying golfers. We simply slot them in to available times throughout the day. In our rst year, we exceeded our target of 50 juniors. We happily introduced over 100 new juniors to our course and to the game of golf. We had a $30,000 increase in membership revenue, without sacri cing a single tee time.
In addition, other branches of our business bene ted from the in ux of juniors playing golf. Juniors love french fries, juice and snacks, so we had a major increase in our food and beverage department revenue in those categories.
Other upticks in revenue included pro shop junior merchandise, especially jar balls, and guest rounds in the evening when parents golfed with their children before taking them home.
We are excited to share this concept with our industry colleagues as more juniors on every golf course bene ts our industry, is great for the kids, and will translate to more golfers in the long-term.
