in our profession, but across the industry. Even in the past few years, seeing the technology advances in sprayers to individual nozzle spray controls has transformed the efficiency, precision, and safety of putting down products.”
From what I have seen over the years, being a member of CGSA, is that Jim definitely has the respect of numerous colleagues in the industry. Flett mentioned that he would not have risen to the top of his game if not for some sound advice from his mentors.
“Gord always said, the success of the maintenance operation starts with a clean, well-organized shop. Simple but true it seems.” He continued, “A lot of my assistants have carried on with this philosophy when they went on to run their own courses.”
Another word of advice Jim remembers is “Good things come to people who are patient. Be grateful for what you have, don’t get stuck in the philosophy the grass is always greener down the road.”
Many such as Flett have built their illustrious careers with years of hard work, mistakes, advice, and technologies, but there is nothing more important than the support from your family and Jim has just that! “My wife, Christine, has provided mental support for the last

28 years.” He continued, “It’s not easy for her, being a golf widow in the summer months, so having that family/ work balance is the most important part of any relation.”
Along with having the amazing support of his wife, Jim is extremely proud of his two sons, Rawlin (who is participating in the Australian/Canadian work exchange program) and Johannes, and recently was thrilled to become a grandfather to two beautiful twin granddaughters in September of 2021. Cheers to Jim on an exceptional career! GM
