welcomes
CGSA President
A beautiful sunny day for the turf team photo on the short game practice area.
A Superintendent’s career can
be challenging, demanding, reward-
ing and exhausting. Braydon often
reminds himself that in addition to
the hard work he inputs and the
copious amounts of time he spends
on the golf course, investing personal
time with family and friends is just as
important. When not at the golf club
Braydon spends most of his time
with his wife Christin and 4 children
Lyla, Roslynne, Esmae and Bennett.
He knows that by engaging in
interests and activities that are
separate from the golf course, it
helps to create an equilibrium
between his work and home life.
Braydon uses that same mindset
of balance when building and
managing his maintenance team. He
welcomes a different mix of
personalities and skillsets to help
create a well-rounded team. His
management style is more of a
‘hands-off approach’ and he is always
in the pursuit of finding ways to
empower his crew to take ownership
over their work and careers, whether
they are turf-related or not.
When asked if he had any words
of wisdom for those who are new to
the turfgrass industry, Braydon
started with, “Keep your ears open –
there are opportunities to learn
things everywhere and if you listen
and observe what’s going on around
you, there are lots of chances for
growth.” He went on to say, “…be
flexible about where you want to
work as it is a small industry. Have a
positive and professional attitude;
and be willing to learn as much as
you can from everyone around you –
be an information sponge.”
As the new President of the CGSA,
Braydon is looking forward to
expanding the membership. He states,
“There is so much potential growth for
both the industry and CGSA to engage
more with facility team members
beyond the Superintendents.” He
acknowledges the challenges in
growing the membership, but is
encouraged by the increasing number
of golf clubs that have signed up for
the Club Membership option, which is
promising for the future of the CGSA.
Welcome Braydon, we look
forward to working with you! GM
