2nd Place Idea
We’ve corralled the best of the best ideas! Presented by Kubota Canada, the Great Canadian Idea Round Up is one of the most highly regarded and bene cial components of the annual Golf Business Canada Conference & Trade Show.
Delegates voted on their favourite revenue boosting or expense manage- ment ideas and we are pleased to present the four winning ideas in upcoming issues of Golf Business Canada magazine.
Our 1st Place Winner, Slade King was given an opportunity to choose the Kubota tractor, mower, or utility vehicle of his choice, and ultimately went with the tractor. The Kubota tractor will be theirs for one full season. Kubota also provided the top four winners with generous gift baskets.

Scheduling
Like every golf operation, one of our major challenges is how to manage the schedules of seasonal staff. Every year we bring in 30-50 new seasonal staff, many of whom are students, to help us get through our busy season.
Most seasonal staff are committed to their employment with us, but also need time off during the summer. Our management team was spending upwards of 10 hours per week, and wasting thousands of dollars, managing their staff to accommodate schedule changes, shift changes, cancellations, illnesses, etc.
We found a solution in 7shifts, a scheduling app that completely transformed our operations. This app allowed us to assign each staff member a variety of roles, and schedule them in any department where their role would t. We could also pool staff by department, so they could be shared depending on their training. The magic in this app is the communication capability and scheduling automation.

Managers can send out noti cations instantly through text and email with shift changes/ cancellations and general info. If a staff member cancels a shift, and the manager approves it, that shift can be placed into a pool available to any staff member with that role. The shift can be picked up without the manager frantically calling staff to cover a shift. In addition, management can make shifts available within the pool, and any staff member can take it on a rst come basis.
This app can also create a customized schedule for you based on your budget, staff availability, number of shifts, etc.!
7shifts is also really affordable. It’s $49.99 per month, and you only pay when you are open. This app has allowed us to reduce wage costs, free up management, ensure every shift is covered and adequately meet the needs of our customers. It was a game-changer!
