2. Calcium% must be greater than
the sum of magnesium% plus
potassium%. Available calcium
flocculates fine particles into
aggregates for good porosity,
impacting firmness.
3. Calcium ppm (mg/l) should be at
least 40 ppm, and greater than
sodium ppm (mg/l). This affects
the firmness of the playing surface.
Higher levels are desirable.
How do you reduce wilt pressure?
Potassium regulates water
movement and nutrient uptake while
serving as an energy reservoir to
enhance ATP synthesis within the
plant and is crucial for proper
stomatal function. When sodium
levels at the roots exceed potassium
levels, the roots absorb more sodium
than potassium, leading to a
replacement effect.
Although stomatal function
continues under sodium stress, the
excess sodium diminishes the
efficiency of stomatal closure.
Consequently, moisture escapes
through the stomata, potentially
causing premature wilting during
heat and traffic stress.
Monitoring the potassium to
sodium balance through the
saturated paste test before heat
stress begins determines whether
actions are needed to reduce wilting.
How do you solubilize nutrients?
Acid rain is beneficial due to its
approximate pH of 5.5. The hydrogen
ions in acidic rainwater disrupt the
bonds between various ionic
compounds and nutrient complexes,
including calcium phosphate, calcium
bicarbonate, calcium sulfate, and
calcium carbonate.
Since frequent rain cannot be
relied upon, low concentrations of
long-lasting acids can be sprayed to
solubilize bicarbonates and other
ionic compounds. This method is
particularly advantageous for
managing high bicarbonate levels in
an irrigation water source.
These sprayable acids remain
effective for 21 to 28 days, with most
solubilization occurring within the
first 14 days after application.
Additionally, they can be mixed with
many other sprayable nutrients and
pesticides in the same spray tank.
