Golfers gather for the Horse Race on The Bear course.
Superintendent Gary Stadnek explains the
rules of the Horse Race.
This year’s second annual Summer Shamble made its way west to the sunny
interior of BC. The Okanagan Golf Club graciously hosted golfers and suppliers
for an unforgettable experience and successful event. Monday evening kicked
off with a horse race on The Bear Golf Course where teams of two played
alternate shot and the highest scores were eliminated after each hole was
played. This continued hole by hole until only one team remained. This year’s
winning team was Barry Evans of the Kelowna Golf & Country Club and Ryan
Beauchamp of Envu. Following the horse race, golfers gathered in the
clubhouse for a welcome reception.
Tuesday morning, attendees enjoyed breakfast and a presentation from
Superintendent Javier Campos from the Cal Club in San Francisco. Javier
shared his experiences both on and off the golf course, spoke about his
dynamic workplace atmosphere, and took us through the renovation project
that transformed his golf course.
Following the presentation, the attendees made their way to The Quail
Golf Course where the shamble was played. The shamble format consisted of
two person teams with each teeing off choosing the best shot and playing
their own ball from there. Despite the mix of sun and rain, each team enjoyed
the pristine conditions that Host Superintendent Gary Stadnek and his team
provided. After golf, everyone gathered in the clubhouse for dinner sponsored
by Toro and for the award presentations. Capping off the event, two local
comedians entertained the attendees and provided lots of laughs.
