2018 Canadian Golf Season Review
The golf season in the majority of Canada runs from April thru October. With this in mind, the NGCOA Canada has made some alterations to the Rounds Played and Weather Reports.
For November to March, you will still receive the Revenue Tracker Report, however the data for Rounds Played and Weather will focus on British Columbia only. BC golf facilities will continue to report and thus receive regional and provincial reporting during the winter months, while the rest of the country will only be submitting during the season.
Strong growth in rounds in Brit- ish Columbia helped elevate the National YTD rounds however that still nished
slightly below 2017 and the 3 year average. Regionally, both Atlantic and Quebec can be best described as at year-over-year while Ontario, the Prairies, and Alberta are down between 3-11%.
It is worth noting that the weather in October wasn’t ideal for golf opera- tions (with operators in the majority of regions scoring the weather as 3.33 or less), especially in Ontario where Rounds Played were tracking slightly ahead YTD at end of September, before a quick end to the season halted that progress in mid-October for many operations.
However, when comparing the Rounds Played Report to the Revenue Tracker, revenues were up nationally by
3.69% over the previous season com- pared to the slight decrease of -1.80% for national rounds played over the same time period. It appears that the average rate per round has increased or non-green fee revenues are compen- sating for the slight decline in rounds.
