   6 TIPS to
After the past 18 months of living and working through the COVID-19 pandemic, with the summer ending and student employees returning to school, many Canadian golf course owners and operators are faced with the reality of reduced staff and a heavy workload. The result is very long and exhausting workdays with high levels of stress. Stress is a common topic of conversation, but how to deal with stress is not.
Stress results from both the good and the bad things that happen to us. If we did not feel any stress, we would not be alive! Stress becomes a problem when we are unsure how to handle an event or a situation. Prolonged periods of stress can lead to burnout.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) defines burnout as a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. Burnout in the course of employment can make one feel emotionally drained and unable to function in the context of work
and other aspects of life. Burnout can reduce productivity, lower your motivation and cause you to feel helpless, hopeless and resentful.
Understanding stress and implementing healthy coping strategies can help golf course owners and operators focus on their business and continue to perform at their optimal level – even on the longest and most challenging days.
