The
Importance
of Education
Asuccessful golf course operation has evolved
far beyond managing turf and a tee sheet. In addition
to Agronomist and Retailer, an operator’s title now
includes Restaurateur, Event Planner, Customer
Service Guru, Marketer and Data Analyst to name
a few. Needless to say, golf course operators are
required to wear many hats, and it can be very difficult
to keep up with the latest trends and technologies in
all these fields.
As operators add additional revenue streams,
the importance of staying on top of these developing
trends is as critical as ever. It’s not just learning about
the ways to run a more efficient business, government
regulations are constantly changing as well. Whether
it be updated requirements on pesticide use or new
food & beverage standards, it’s critical that you’re up
to date on operational requirements and how to most
efficiently manage your operations within those new
guidelines.
That is why the NGCOA Canada places such an
emphasis on education. In order for us to successfully
support YOUR BUSINESS, we must ensure that we are
constantly bringing you emerging best practices and
strategies in all operational areas. We consistently see
how the application of this knowledge can set operators
apart from their peers. Those who invest in continuing
education are better equipped to adapt to industry
changes and make informed decisions that support
both their day-to-day operations as well as their long-
term business outlook.
At the forefront of our education pillar is the Golf
Business Canada Conference & Trade Show. Every year in
November, over 3 days, 500+ golf industry leaders gather
to learn and begin mapping out their strategies for the
year ahead. The lineup of speakers is meticulously curated
throughout the year, with input from our staff team who
are in constant contact with our members coast to coast.
More than 20 industry experts from every area of the golf
operation are brought in to lead sessions, from smaller
breakouts to large keynote addresses. By covering a wide
array of topics, we’re able to provide valuable insights to
beyond just owners, but key management staff as well.
General managers, superintendents, food & beverage
managers, event managers and administration staff all
have educational sessions tailored to their responsibilities.
In fact, many of the most successful operators bring several
team members to maximize their education and ensure that
all sessions are attended.
Our Spring Warm Up events are also centered on
education. With 16 regional events, the educational
component often focuses on specific regulations or issues
within that area. When governmental regulations or policies
change, our goal is always to clarify any vague language and
inform our members on how that change will specifically
affect their golf operation.
This year, Golf Business Canada Conference &
Trade Show is happening from November 18th to 20th
in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Register your team today at
https://conference.ngcoa.ca/. Our Spring Warm Up events
are happening across Canada from February to April 2026.
We look forward to seeing you!
