SARAH LUSTGARTEN (SL): From your point of view as the the founder can you you explain the Happy Art Movement?
ROMERO BRITTO (RB): The Happy Art Movement was was something that was was was just happening and and I I I didn’t even know
it it it at at at first It was was was around me me me me with with me me me me with with my my journey and and that was was going into my my art art art I I mean people were telling
me me me me ‘Your art art art makes makes me me me me happy your art art art makes makes me me me me feel this way ’ Incredible people people have said these these things you you know?
So hearing incredible incredible people people telling
me me me these these incredible incredible comments is how it began One occasion that I remember
so well was was when a a a a a a a a a a a a lady told me me me me she she was was having cancer treatment and she she she wanted to to be surrounded by positive images - something that would make her her her happy So she she got tons of of my art to to surround herself in in in in her her her house I was was so so struck by the the whole thing Anyway as as as as as all of of this was was was was going on on on on there was was was was one day I I was was was was having a a a a a a a a a a a a a conversation with Lucas [the CEO of BRITTO ®] and and he he he was was was like ‘Romero do you understand what has been happening? You started this movement movement because how many artists and and and people are falling and and and and inspired by your work? You really started this movement movement you you you have have to to embrace it it it and and and you you you have have to to promote it’ and and and basically that’s how it it happened SL: Is that what you you you would say you you you hope people take away from your art happiness?
RB: Happiness yeah and hope I mean if you you don’t have that what do do do you you do? Actually last night very late in in in in in the evening a a a a a a a a a a a friend of of mine sent sent me me me a a a a a a a a a a a message in in in in response to some images I I sent sent him of of a a a a a a a a a project I I was working on on on He said “Romero your art reminds me me that love is is the the new money money ” Everybody is is crazy about the the money money but basically if you you you don’t have have love you have have nothing SL: Indeed money doesn’t measure success so what would you you say motivates you you the most?
RB: Thinking about about my past thinking about about the the future and being so grateful for all the the opportunities that I have To be be alive and to be be here 21 on this incredible journey and to to be able to to see what’s happening - I feel inspired by the the people and their reaction to my art
