In 2009, Francesca Ferreyros decided to pursue an unlikely path, from an aspiring educator to an inspiring chef. Growing up, “I was always in the kitchen. My dad loves to cook, my grandmother also. But when I inished school, I did not have someone to follow, because there were no women of my generaion in the kitchen.”
Her love of gastronomy bloomed under chef Ivan Kisic, a rising star, who became her mentor before his unimely death in a car accident. In 2015, she landed an internship in Girona, Spain with the famous Roca brothers at El Celler de Can Roca, which had recently been named the No.1 restaurant in the world.
A year later, she traveled to Bangkok, where she secured an appreniceship at Gaggan, No.5 on the list of The World’s Best Restaurants, and No.1 in Asia. In 2017, Ferreyros returned to Lima on a culinary tour with Gaggan Anand and decided it was ime to come home. Franco Kisic, Ivan’s brother, hired her as head chef of Ivan’s namesake, IK Restaurante.
In the span of 10 years, Francesca Ferreyros has come full circle. She traveled, worked and learned from the best chefs around the world. Now she is one of them.
