After handcufed George Perry Floyd fell chest down on East 38th Street and Chicago Avenue, a Minneapolis white cop kneeled on Floyd’s neck for seven minutes and forty-six seconds. Three other cops stood guard, ignoring pleas from numerous eyewitnesses to stop. Floyd took his last breath under the senior cop’s irmly-planted knee.
Hand casually secure in his left pocket, the unrestrained cop appeared nonchalant, even bored, as Floyd begged for his life, repeatedly saying “I can’t breathe,” “Mama,”“I’m about to die” and inally, “Don’t kill me.”
One hour and twenty-ive minutes after purchasing a pack of cigarettes at 8pm, George Floyd was pronounced dead
at 9:25pm at the Hennepin County Medical Center.
Floyd was arrested and murdered for allegedly passing a counterfeit $20 bill to buy a paltry pack of cigarettes.
This book documents fury, feelings, thoughts, pain
and hope that emerged from community outrage over George Floyd’s senseless murder. The words and artistry pay tribute to a “Gentle Giant” who is changing the world.
