Postscript
On that fateful spring morning, April 10,1963, the
USS Thresher carried 16 officers, 96 enlisted men and
17 civilian technicians. The remains of the submarine were eventually found scattered over a large area in 8,400 feet of water off the coast of Cape Cod, MA. No pieces of the sub or human remains were ever recovered.
On April 10, 1963, my father was at the Naval Station in Great Lakes, training for re-assignment to a nuclear submarine. He called a week later to tell us he was okay.
