Tony thought it was just enough to do the job. I unlatched the door, opened it a few inches, knelt behind it and took a couple of deep breaths.
Then I heard him coming down the stairs. Thump, thump, thump, thump.
“Hey lady, you fall in or somethin?” he yelled.
I moaned, just loud enough to keep him coming.
“You gotta problem?,” he yelled again. He was now outside the door.
I tightened my grip on the flashlight, stood up and raised my arm. He stuck his head through the door. Pow.
