A Visionary Woman Who
NEVER GAVE UP
ON HER DREAM
When I was 15, my dream was to come to Canada. I envisioned myself in the snow enjoying every flake that lay on my clothes. My friends laughed because they thought that my dream was impossible. Canada is very far from the Philippines and only rich people can move to that heavenly country, but I never stop dreaming. Eight years later, my dream came true.
At age of 23, I got an opportunity to come to Canada as a Foreign Worker. I went to the foreign land by myself, with no money having never spoken a word of English. I also had to leave my two-year-old daughter and 11-month-old son whom I was breastfeeding. It was exciting because it was my dream; however,
I kept holding back because I didn’t want to leave my precious children. I repeated the faith my mother taught to us as children. When I became a mother myself, I understood why parents need to go abroad. I never said goodbye to them when I left and needed to leave them for many years. That
is the most heartbreaking story in my life. Homesickness hurt me a lot, but
I needed to be strong and do whatever it took for my children’s future.
Then my friend introduced me to the cleaning business. When I am cleaning, I forgot temporarily all my loneliness and longing. I dreamed that someday my family would be here with me to achieve our dreams together. I saved money and delayed gratification, giving up the comfortable lifestyle to help them. After four years, I was able to sponsor my family through Canadian Experience Family Class, and we were reunited.
In October 2016, Canajan Inc. was born. It is a combination of Canada’s Janitorial Services. I have a 25-year vision for this company. In 2019, I finally quit my secured job to work in
my cleaning business. From three happy clients who believed
in me, I have now 25 regular residential clients and eight commercial contracts in Edmonton and Alberta North. I
was nominated for the Womanition Supearlative Award as a New Citizen and the Alberta Women Entrepreneur Award of Distinction, and I was a finalist for the Newcomer Entrepreneur Award of Distinction in 2020. Out of 269 submissions in all of Alberta, my company was chosen to be part of it.
Money is not an excuse to avoid pursuing your dreams. I came to Canada and started my business with no money. With drive, passion and a big vision of yourself, you can achieve your dream.
